Traditional Renovation

Phoenix-Traditional-Home-Bar-Stool-Seating

Relocation Upgrade

This renovation was for a family that recently relocated to Phoenix from Denver. They wanted a traditional design that was warm, and classic, but with a few hints of contemporary to keep it young. An open-feel concept was also a big priority. The old kitchen and adjacent rooms made the area feel small and confined, was unsightly, and had inadequate functionality.

We removed the walls surrounding the kitchen to achieve the openness of the space but needed to keep the support, so we installed an exposed wooden post and beam. We also tore down the walls surrounding the double-sided fireplace to make it a freestanding feature. This added to the unrestricted feeling the clients desired. The wooden beam brought in a traditional feature as well as the reclaimed wood for one side of the fireplace mantel.

On the other side, we kept the decorative millwork but added whitewashed brick to replace the tile. The kitchen cabinets are the classic, white shaker style with metal mesh upper cabinet inserts. To further bring in the traditional look, we used a white farmhouse sink, white subway tile, cherry butcherblock countertop for the island and glass island electrical fixtures. These elements were offset with Contemporary stainless-steel appliances and plumbing fixtures along with a sleek white marble-look quartz countertop.

The dining room was relocated, and that space became a living room. In the adjoining bonus room, we framed the entryway and windows with a craftsman/traditional style white casing which adds to the traditional feel. This trim was carried throughout the whole house. And for a fun touch, the clients wanted a little bar area and a kegerator installed. We kept the more contemporary theme with the stainless-steel color and a white quartz countertop. All the flooring was replaced with hardwood flooring giving the house a cohesive look. The clients were delighted with how the kitchen turned out and how spacious the areas felt in addition to the seamless mix of styles.
